Northwest Tobacco Prevention Coalition
Northwest Tobacco Prevention Coalition is an educational effort to increase awareness of the health hazards of tobacco use and secondhand smoke and to promote policies that protect the public from the negative consequences of tobacco use. The coalition serves Alleghany, Ashe, Caldwell, Watauga and Wilkes counties.
Mission Statement
The North Carolina Tobacco Prevention and Control Program works to improve the health of North Carolina residents by promoting smokefree environments and tobacco-free lifestyles.
Four Program Goals
- Prevent Initiation of Tobacco Use Among Young People
- Eliminate Exposure to Secondhand Smoke
- Promote Cessation for Adults and Youth
- Identify & Eliminate Tobacco-Related Disparities in Specific Populations

Funding
Funding is provided by the Centers for Disease Control and is administered by the Tobacco Prevention and Control Branch within the Department of Health and Human Services, in partnership with local health departments.
