Colposcopy/ LEEP
Colposcopy is a special exam that allows a closer look at your cervix. Your doctor or other health care provider may do a colposcopy if you had one or more abnormal Pap test results. Colposcopy may also be done if you have pain or bleeding with sexual intercourse. Colposcopy takes 15-30 minutes. It is done in the clinic on a day when you are not having your menstrual period. You'll need to avoid sexual intercourse and not use any creams in your vagina the night before your appointment. During colposcopy, a special microscope (colposcope)is used to magnify the cervix. This helps our health care provider see any signs of a problem, such as genital warts or abnormal cells. These problems can be easily treated when detected early. Based on your colposcopy results, our provider will discuss treatment options. The clinic site for this service is Ashe and Watauga.
When tests show that you have abnormal cells on your cervix, our provider may suggest an option such as the loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP). LEEP is used to remove the abnormal cells from your cervix. This service is provided only in Ashe county.
