Environmental Health Services of the Appalachian District is responsible for ensuring that our residents have a clean and healthful environment in which to live, work and play. This is accomplished through education, inspections and active enforcement of county and state rules and regulations.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources provides technical guidance and delegation of authority to the Appalachian District's Environmental Health staff.

This is a 10 day public notice that Appalachian District Health Department's (ADHD) current "Rules Regulating the
Construction, Repair and Abandonment of Wells" will Sunset on June 30, 2008, at which time Appalachian
District Health Department will be adopting the North Carolina "State Private Well Rules" set forth in
North Carolina Administrative Codes (NCAC) 15A NCAC 02C .0301 through 15A NCAC 02C .0305. Copies of the
new Well Rules are available at Alleghany County Health Department, 157 Health Service Road, Sparta, NC;
Ashe County Health Department, 413 McConnell Street, Jefferson, NC 28640; and Watauga County Health
Department, 126 Poplar Grove Connector, Boone, NC 28607. Copies are also available at the County
